Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
