Brian Eno Calls On Backing to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The effort seeks to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down after a major charity concert held in late summer. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the piece was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of musicians contributing to Lullaby features a group of well-known figures from the industry. All were part of the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of producers and composers. The track blends a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The team running the initiative have emphasized that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These donations will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a figure commented. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was characterized as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a handful of millions doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is first of all making this cause better known and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from mid-December.
