Police mentioned they were alerted by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for information.

A high-ranking political figure commented the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
