Israelis have assembled across the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-led assault on 7 October 2023, as discussions advanced in the neighboring country over an end to the conflict in Gaza.

The attack saw in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured back to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most fatal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are seen as accurate by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"The aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on that day.

He also pledged to "realize all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will not pose a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The national leadership postponed formal remembrance events until 16 October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but ceremonies still occurred throughout the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israelis killed in the Hamas assault was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was televised on Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected around the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' negotiating teams convened in the Egyptian coastal city of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to review the terms of the plan.

A high-ranking delegate involved in the discussions indicated that an evening round of negotiations commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official said the day's discussions concluded without significant progress, amid disagreements over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not restart fighting after the first phase of the arrangement.

He noted that the negotiations are "challenging and have yet to achieve any significant progress," but noted that facilitators are making efforts to narrow the disparities between the both parties.

Critical Points in Negotiations

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The swap of the captives still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Future governance of the region

Public Sentiment

In the city's memorial area previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose sibling lived through the attack on the gathering, where many attendees were murdered and numerous more were captured by Hamas militants - told: "Nowhere appears as home anymore and until all the hostages come back no one will be secure."

"After we see everyone home once more, we can relax again. Then we can commence rebuild," she concluded.

Near the prime minister's official dwelling in the capital, people gathered to show their solidarity for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel reports 48 stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be living.

Activist a participant stated: "It's necessary do every compromise needed for the captives to return. But we truly desire promises that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately 70% of the population prefer the hostilities to end in exchange for the liberation of the captives.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the location of the music event, mourners gathered to pay their respects.

From there, the noise of aerial bombardments and artillery could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the intense Israeli shelling carried on.

In the urban center, attacks were noted in the morning of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, sector and Nasr districts and in the eastern district of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"When the evening comes, the anxiety comes with it," displaced Gaza City resident a local woman, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, explained.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the attacks. All the night we are resting together, holding each other, notably my little child who puts his face on me all night."

"Constantly we look at the news to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be completed and that the war will resume to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The medical facility in Gaza City said it had accepted the remains of six people by the midday, including a trio who died in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of that area said another two victims had been transported. A person was died by Israeli troops while attempting to get aid to the southern area, medical staff said.

The region's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
