As part of a notable escalation, Kyiv's forces reportedly used British-made Storm Shadow missiles to target and hit a key Russian oil refinery. The attack was carried out Thursday, according to the Ukrainian military authorities.
Details of the Strike and Military Significance
The targeted facility, the Novoshakhtinsk refinery, was said to be hit, with multiple blasts recorded at the location. This marks not the first instance where Ukrainian forces has deployed these advanced British-supplied missiles against objectives inside Russian soil.
Ukrainian officials emphasized that the Novoshakhtinsk facility serves as one of the main suppliers of petrol products in southern Russia and is actively engaged in supplying the military of the Russian Federation.
Political Discussions on the War Front
Separately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Thursday that he held “very good” talks with representatives of former US President Donald Trump, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. These talks focused on possible ways to bring the conflict to a close.
“We had a really good conversation: many details, constructive proposals, that we discussed,” Zelenskyy stated on a messaging platform. “There are some fresh concepts on how to move toward real peace closer, and it involves formats, potential summits, and, of course, the timeline.”

In a parallel internal matter, a court in Russia has convicted a activist and critic of Vladimir Putin on charges of supporting terrorist activities. Sergei Udaltsov, head of the opposition movement, was given to six years in prison.
This case reportedly stem from an online post Udaltsov published in support of another group of activists accused of forming a terrorist group. Udaltsov has denied the allegations as politically motivated and, after the sentencing, reportedly announced to begin a hunger strike in protest.
