The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the top division and handed the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven struck twice from corners in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's first goal, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent stops to ensure Tottenham went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to review the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves the manager's side into third place in the division, five points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils role at both ends of pitch

Following a uninspiring midweek performance in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a only attempts on target, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with the midfielder heading the ball toward the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his second in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defensive duties, combining well with Kevin Danso as the duo handled excellently with the 34 crosses thrown their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking striker's instinct

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the novelty may have worn off slightly and fans flocked to the exits after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a major worry for the manager, but their attacking woes are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two recognised strikers - had netted only a single goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to add to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy evening on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having room and opportunity to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, as well, was unable to make an impact after replacing Beto in the 65th minute.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. Most of Everton's offensive moves came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered dangerous balls into the Tottenham penalty area.

The Toffees: The team travel to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on early November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: Spurs travel to Newcastle's ground on late October for their fourth-round League Cup tie against the Magpies.
