‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: Meg Ryan Shares Emotional Homage to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the departed director Rob Reiner, who directed her in the hit romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA this past weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being held without bail. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.

“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan went on to write. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy issued words today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner with a statement shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” the tribute noted. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.

Reiner’s celebrated filmography comprised classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
