Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his future following another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase such as this with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
