Supporters Urge Detainment of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the actress are calling for that a individual who jumped a barrier and touched the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A circulating video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and lunging at Grande while the actors walked down a event pathway surrounded by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being detained", though official papers revealed that he was due to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account features recordings of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney concert in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is evidently a legal violation," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Past Trauma
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some demanded online networks to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Many of attendees had gathered in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore venue, including several who had queued for as long as eight hours before it began.
The movie, to be premiered on 21 November, is the sequel of a dual adaptation of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful movie of last year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, winning two for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
