The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Knows How His Sci-Fi Series Might Finish... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed series reaching its finale—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Fan Response

One could easily to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I hear about it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
