Wimbledon Introduces Video Review System in 2025.

Wimbledon court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Replay technology will make its debut at The Championships for the 2025 edition.

Players will gain the ability to question particular decisions from the chair umpire, following the protocol currently in place at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.

The new system will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This development comes just a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the 147-year tradition of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to re-examine other decisions, including:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a ball touched an opponent's racquet or person during play.
  • Potential interference end of a point.

Importantly, there is no cap on the amount of challenges a player can ask for.

A Recent Example

An illustrative case took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the video challenge against his opponent.

The British player conceded it was a tough call for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules effectively."

The umpire watched a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, awarding the point to his opponent.

Growing Trend

This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system in place at all of its tournaments.

Other Changes

Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.

This addresses instances where the crowd have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was out or in.

In other news, with exactly a century of days to go until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have also announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
